A history of firsts in dentistry
From the very beginning, Planmeca has grown hand in hand with dental technology. Indeed, the company has a proud history of “world firsts” in the dental industry. In 1986, for example, the company introduced the world’s first microprocessor controlled dental unit and the world’s first microprocessor controlled panoramic X-ray unit. More recently, the company launched e.g. Planmeca Ultra Low Dose, the world’s first low dose imaging mode in 2013, and Planmeca CALM, the world’s first end-user solution for motion artefact correction in 2017.
Since the founding of the company by Heikki Kyöstilä in 1971, Planmeca has journeyed from producing dental stools and cabinetry to becoming an innovator and internationally recognised manufacturer of dental technology. Today, Planmeca products are sold in more than 120 countries worldwide. Planmeca is the parent company of Planmeca Group, which operates in the field of health technology, and is the largest privately owned company in its field.
Design to the finest detail, highest standardRenowned for their sleek design aesthetic, but also for their durability and technical cleverness, Planmeca products are designed specifically with the dentist and patient in mind. Informed by unrivalled scientific knowledge and an in-depth understanding of clinical workflows, the company’s design philosophy has always adhered to four key principles: ergonomics, safety, comfort and aesthetics. In Planmeca products, these principles are carried through in every detail.
At the same time, Planmeca is also committed to environmental sustainability through responsible engineering and manufacture. As a result, e.g. more than 90% of the materials used in company products are recyclable. Planmeca R&D continues to look for new ways to take environmental factors into consideration – all the while meeting the strictest safety and quality requirements for dental and medical devices.
